Tiffany Glass Colors

How Tiffany glass is colored article by Jim Hoyle

The colors that you see in Tiffany style stained glass shades are an integral part of the glass created by the addition of various metal oxides and minerals to the glass while it is still in the molten state.

It is not accomplished by painting or by use of pigments.

Here are some popular glass colors and the minerals used to create these colors:
Manganese creates violet colors
Copper creates various red colors and green colors
Cobalt creates blues, uranium creates yellows and greens
Iron creates greens and browns
Gold creates purples and reds
Tin creates opaque white
Chromium creates emerald
Antimony creates yellow, etc.
